Long Island Restaurant Week Executive Committee says:
To all Long Island Restaurant Week diners and participating restaurants:

Thank you for making Long Island Restaurant Week so successful as measured by a record 251 participating restaurants and over 200,800 meals served. We hope all of you enjoyed your experience. Diners used the week as an opportunity to try new places, but also visit old favorites, to meet up with friends and family and, of course, get a good deal. Smart restaurateurs used the week to attract new customers. ("If I could just get people in to try our food, experience our service and our ambiance, I know they’ll come back.") Yes, there were a few rude customers who did not tip well, surly waiters stretched because of demand and menus that did not always follow the guidelines. We can’t police every restaurant so we do rely on the voice of the people. Those establishments that bent the rules will not be doing so next year. But let's remember the positives: the 3rd Annual Long Island Restaurant Week was a rousing success in terms of participation from all of you. It was a celebration of Island-wide eateries and foodies making it a win-win for all. We'll see you at the 4th Annual Long Island Restaurant Week (11/1/08 – 11/8/08) or at the 7th Annual Hamptons Restaurant Week on 3/29/09 to 4/5/09 (www.hamptonsrestaurantweek.com) in spring '09!

Some of the restaurants are extending their Restaurant Week menu, so please continue to take advantage of these wonderful meals. Just ate at Vittorio's in Amityville and it was fantastic. Their regular menu sounds just as good, so we'll be returning there again.

I have to disagree with Lucy & Anthony. I saw plenty of adveristing. Not only by the orangizers but by the restaurants themselves. The local papers, Newsday, & the city papers had both advertisements and articles. I received e-mails from Long Island groups that I belong too & from resturants the I frequent. If you wrote to criticize, then you know the website. Why don't you bookmark it and check it once in awhile. You have open your eyes and look no one is going to phone you or knock your door to tell you "Restaurant Week Is Coming!!! Resturant Week Is Comining!!!!"

Anthony says:
I agree with Lucy. From reading your marketing, there was too much emphasis placed in the Hampton's publications. This was LONG ISLAND RESTAURANT WEEK, Not HAMPTONS RESTAURANT WEEK. I read up on all of the advertising, we all know most online advertising is free once you advertise with their hard copy. I believe that every restaurant deserves a complete financial statement as to where teir money went.

Long Island Restaurant Week Executive Committee says:
Message from Long Island Restaurant Week Executive Committee: In response to Lucy's comment we would like all restaurants and diners to know that we take the media coverage of Long Island Restaurant Week very seriously. Between advertising, marketing and public relations, $70,000 was spent promoting this event. We do everything we can to make sure the public is aware of the event and that restaurants are given every opportunity to draw a crowd. The event’s advertising consisted of advertisements that ran several times including; 47 print publications, 4 radio, 2 television, 7 internet and two J. Kings billboard trucks wrapped with promotional information. There were 67 editorial placements and a social media campaign that utilized Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and the Dishing on Dining eNewsletter. Marketing efforts were also made including the distribution of posters and postcards listing all participants. If you missed out on restaurant week we would also like you to know that several Long Island restaurants have chosen to continue the promotion until the end of November. For a complete list with contact information please visit http://www.dishingondining.com/event_lirw_extended.php.
