Eating Long Island

Last year, we told you about "Long Island Restaurant Week," with more than 60 restaurants on Long Island offering a three-course prix fixe package for $21.95. The idea was to generate business during the normally static month of November. Last year's spin-off of "Hamptons Restaurant Week" garnered estimated restaurant revenues of around $2.8 million, with an estimated 80,000 meals prepared.

That's a savory figure for participating restaurants, who are back for another helping this year. And their numbers have doubled. This year, more than 120 restaurants are slated to particpate in Long Island Restaurant Week, scheduled for Nov. 4 to Nov. 11. A list of participating restaurants is available at www.longislandrestaurantweek.com.

Long Island Restaurant Week

The first-ever Long Island Restaurant Week, held last November, was a resounding success, as restaurants saw an increase in sales and reservations of up to 200 percent due to special prix fixe menu offerings. Total restaurant revenue was estimated to be $2,848,200, with New York State taking in an estimated $150,753 in tax dollars. According to preliminary results from a post-event survey, participating restaurants served an estimated 80,000 meals. "Long Island Restaurant Week has become a great way for restaurants to attract new customers just before the holiday season. It offers Long Islanders an affordable treat, giving them an opportunity to feast on some of the best dishes from area restaurants," said Steve Haweeli, president of WordHampton PR, which organized the event.
